The exhibition opens with the performance We are ocean. In it, the artist arrives at the gallery by boat – a bodily gesture of approach, of arrival, of permeability. It is a movement coming from the water, not from the land. In the ensuing ritual, water is not represented but carried, shared, and honoured. The artist becomes a medium, a vessel, a host for an action that dissolves boundaries: between body and environment, between art and element.
The composition by Matthias Albold accompanies the performance with a soundscape that is both haunting and permeable. Through the interweaving of ship signals, lighthouse tones, and natural sound textures, an acoustic connection emerges between civilization and nature – an echo of permeability that sets the space vibrating.
This performance is not merely part of the exhibition. It is a reminder: we are not observers of the world – we are part of its currents. We are not outside ecology – we are hydrographic bodies ourselves. We are not above the water – we are water.
